"HELP"

my family is on my nerves!"

Author: Dr. S. Edwards

As we seek God’s face to pray for our relationships with our loved ones whether, friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, fellow believers in Christ or those whom we may come in contact with it is also important that we pray to God for our relationship with Him to be strengthened because strengthening our relationship with God can give us the wisdom, love, forgiveness, compassion,
and strength to be able to better navigate and nurture our relationship with others.

Relationships are often times confusing, not knowing when to hold on and when to let go. When to keep pushing to make things work and when to realize that maybe this relationship is too toxic to continue. In most cases it is our hearts and our emotions that guide our actions and behaviors with those that we both love and may not love so much.

It is extremely hard to love those that frustrate you, hurt you, ridicule you, insult you, but if we are to follow God’s example we must love just as He loves us and forgive just as He forgives us. Yep, tough pill to swallow. It takes a whole lot of prayer if we are to be honest. How can you love someone that has disappointed you and betrayed you? Only with the love of God can we ever do so.

There are times in which we must realize that maybe it is our own actions and behaviors that need to change. Have we said the wrong words? Have we addressed “faults” with love vs. criticism? Have we attacked those who only tried to be honest with us because we hate acknowledging the person in the mirror?

We are not perfect and just like those who we love make mistakes, we must also acknowledge that we too make mistakes that may cause hurt and pain to those we love. Pray that God not only works on the individual that you are praying for but pray that He also works on you. Can you be defensive? Or maybe you are combative. Are you hard to talk to?

Are there people that we are going to have to learn to simply ignore? Absolutely, because the truth of the matter is there are some people that God won’t allow us to separate from no matter how much we want to. And there are certain people that whether we like it or not we will have to learn to tolerate and work with. The difficulty is being Christ like and respectful but at the same time not being a doormat for people to walk all over you. Yep, something that we definitely need guidance from God to see our way through. Knowing when it is okay to say how we feel and when we should keep our feelings to ourselves. Knowing when enough is enough and when we have to keep loving just a little bit more. No one can say that they have the perfect answer unless their answer involves seeking God for guidance.

As you continue to try to understand the relationships in your life also reflect on self-awareness because why you can't change those that you love you can be a better, stronger, healthier you.

Prayers for Relationships

Below are excerpts from the bible that
reflect on relationships.
Use these scriptures to guide your prayers.
They provide a great start on some key things you can reflect on while you pray for your relationships.

Ephesians 4 reflects on unity, maturity, and exhibiting Christ like behavior in our relationships.

Ephesians 4:2 – "Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."

Ephesians 4:29 – "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

Ephesians 4:32 –"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

Patience in Suffering

It is easy when frustrated or when going through difficulties to lose our cool. In these times we can sometimes become overwhelmed causing us to complain about everyone around us forgetting that we too can be intolerable at times.

James 5:9 – "Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!"

Remember: There is no hypocrisy in love

Romans 12:9 “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”
